It was so wonderful to photograph Jess and Jake’s amazing medieval wedding. However, for me it wasn’t just for the obvious reasons that it was so exciting to be their wedding photographer. Yes, it was visually spectacular and we had wonderful weather. Notwithstanding, for me, it was the matters of the heart that got me super excited.
Everything you see in the photos of Jess and Jake’s medieval wedding was envisioned and created by them, their family and friends including the artistic wedding cake.
What made it extra special in my eyes was how much both Jess and Jake valued their wedding day. They worked on the wedding day as a team together for months beforehand and dedicate lots of their personal time and effort. Both Jess and Jake were so invested. Everything including their vows was thoughtful and special. Together they had a spectacular vision for their wedding and they worked hard to bring it to fruition for all their friends and family to enjoy.
The effort was not only from Jess and Jake, but their friends and family also put in immense effort to make it amazing. The outfits were incredible but what was even more gorgeous to witness as a photographer was how everyone interacted. Throughout the whole day there was a feeling of one big community. Everyone was present to be each others' company and in great spirits to genuinely celebrate. I didn't see a single person scrolling on their mobile phone to entertain themselves. People were mingling, chatting and living in the present. The atmosphere was as warm as the bonfire.
Wayne Rees from Cairns Marriages, performed the wedding ceremony. I couldn’t imagine anyone being more perfect for Jess and Jake’s day. Wayne is kind and sincere but also a little bit theatrical and quirky. He performed a very apt ceremony and had everyone in stitches of laughter and then in tears of joy. It just keeps getting better with the meaningful parts to the day….Wayne also married Jess’ parents many years ago. He is well known to the family. The venue was amazing. The ceremony and reception was on Genazzano Lake Retreat, located on the Atherton Tablelands, approximately 90 minutes drive from Cairns, North Queensland. The venue does not have noise or time restrictions and you are not obligated to shut down your wedding at midnight . This is a huge bonus. It also has the ability to accommodate up to 100 people in affordable accommodation. Guests can relax, have a few drinks, knowing they have a comfortable place to stay without needing to drive.
The retreat is located on the banks of Lake Tinaroo, near Lake Barrine. It is surrounded by majestic gum trees and waterways. To have some twinkling sun to add to this scenically beautiful location, was like chocolate for my camera. Yeeeehaaaaa....what a treat to be selected as their photographer. Thank you Jess and Jake.
I wish this very lovely couple many happy and healthy years together.
